The Day the Earth Stood Still

Synopsis :
The Day the Earth Stood Still is 20th Century Fox's contemporary reinvention of its 1951 classic. Keanu Reeves portrays Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission - and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth."

On 12th December 2008, we (YS, EW, SF, YF and I) went to watch this movie. If let me to rate this movie, I would like to give 3/5. This actually was a good movie with attractive beginning but for the ending was just hasty.

My Opinion :
The robot was almost same as the robot cop, no freshness.
The story was calling attention to love and protect our earth but it just didn’t focus on the main theme.
It was focusing on how an alien believed that our human would change if something trouble happen to us.

A question for me was why the time when Helen’s stepson was going to die, Klaatu suddenly believed that human would change.
It should be regretful of human in making the earth so ugly and causing a lot of pollution but not dead as a turning point.
For me, it liked out of the topic. It was not a love movie, not an action movie, not a comedy, then what was it?

………don’t know?

The alien, Klaatu, was touched by both of them. At the moment when both of them, Helen and her stepson going to die soon, they still appreciate the time they can be together, even a second. The alien with no emotion and no feeling finally was touched by the situation. But, this has nothing to do with the Earth.....a nice, but out-of-topic ending....sign....

yeah, I couldn't relate the death with the earth together. It supposes to discuss more about saving the earth and how human's ugly actions destroy this beautiful planet, should be more environmental issues to be discussed and I think death is not so nice for the ending and touching of the alien is not as meaningful as regretful of human themselves.
